what is the summer solstice?

The Summer Solstice occurs exactly when the Earth's axial tilt is most inclined towards the sun the day on which the Summer Solstice occurs is the day of the year with the longest period of daylight. Thus the seasonal significance of the Summer Solstice is in the reversal of the gradual shortening of nights and lengthening of days. The summer solstice occurs in June in the Northern Hemisphere and in December in the Southern Hemisphere.

  1. Did the solstice have anything to do with religion in Greece or Rome?

  2. The concept of the solstices was embedded in ancient Greek celestial navigation which is a position fixing technique that has steadily evolved over several thousand years to help sailors cross featureless oceans without having to rely on estimated calculations.

this is all i could find on it it doesn't say anything about religion.
