if you open Medusa’s eyes dead or alive they still work?

It is said that after the death of Medusa, Perseus was said to bring her head to Athena after having used it in battle to defeat his enemies. Athena cast the head into her shield and there it remained.
But i couldn't find anything that said that her eyes still turned people to stone even after her death.
So im thinknig that the movie only said that so they could kill the Lernaean Hydra later in the movie.
